He was crippled in a fall several years ago and suffered a stroke in 2023. Your support will help cover costs of this site and provide more frequent updates.

Arts in Georgia have a 62 billion dollar economic impact. The Georgia Council for the Arts provides resources and support for Georgia poets, writers and artists. For information on grants and programs of the Georgia Council for the Arts, please see the link above.

Founded in 1979, the Georgia Poetry Society has grown to over 200 members across the State. Membership dues are $30.00 per year. Membership is open to all Georgia poets, of all skill levels. The Society provides resources for Georgia poets and a number of poetry contests. Currently, meetings are via Zoom. Please see link above for more information.

For the past several years, thousands of Georgia high school students have participated in the Poetry Out Loud State recitation competitions, sponsored by the Georgia Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Your high school is invited to participate!
Poetry Out Loud is a wonderful program for students. The program helps the develop Stage and speaking skills, confidence and a love of poetry. Poetry really needs to be spoken to truly be enjoyed. Poetry Slams are events in which adults and students read and perform poetry for awards and prizes. There are many local events and even a National competition. Check with your local poetry group for the nearest Slam event and Slam schedules. The above link is for The Alliance Theatre Poetry Slam in Atlanta..

The Atlanta Writers Club was founded in 1914. The group provides resources and support for writers of all levels and all genres of writing. They provide critique groups, contests and seminars on the craft of writing. Please see link above for online events and live events. The above link also provides membership information.

Calhoun Area Writers is a group that welcomes all writers of all skill levels and genres. The group meets once a month (when possible). Please see link above for membership and calendar information.

The Village Writers Group is a group in Decatur that provides monthly meetings and provides critique groups. The group does provide ongoing critique groups on fiction and short stories. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month at Eagle Eye Books, Decatur, (when possible). Membership dues are $30.00 per year. Please see link above for more information.

Northeast Georgia Writers is a group in Gainsville that welcomes all area writers of all genres. The group seeks to provide resources and critiques for writers and point them (when possible) toward publishing opportunities. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month, on the second floor of the Sun Trust Bank, main branch in downtown Gainesville. Dues are $30.00 per year. At the time of this writing, I do not see an updated calendar for the group, but more information can be found on the link above.

The Georgia Writers Association welcomes all Georgia writers of all genres. Normally, they meet once a month at the ‘Elevator Factory, 437 Memorial Dr. SE, A-2, Atlanta. They also hold a number of online events. Please see calendar on the link above.

The North Georgia Christian Writers Group welcomes all Christian writers in Atlanta and North Georgia. The group seeks to provide resources, critiques and publishing news to writers. The meet (when possible) at the Buford First United Methodist Church, in Buford. Please see link above for calendar and membership information.

Steven Robert Heine is an American poet and author. He has spent much of his life supporting poetry projects and events. He is the author of 8 volumes of poetry. In 2011 he was seriously injured in a fall that left him in great pain and almost unable to walk. He suffered a stroke in 2023. Heine receives no disability and relies on a small pension and retirement income. He is no longer able to make public appearances.

Steven Robert Heine is a West Coast poet & author. He has traveled extensively through the United States, including many trips to Georgia. Heine has spent his life promoting poetry; serving as founder for many poetry contests. He is the author of fifteen books, including poetry, history and his own short auto-biographies. His books can be found on Ebay, Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
Heine was crippled in a fall in 2011 and now makes very few public appearances.
